With our help, they learned. We grew the bank, along with many more black owned businesses. Our business bank was the largest black owned bank in Charlotte. We had the number of branches and customers. I have worked for a black owned bank, a publicly traded corporation, and a venture funded private equity firm in California, so I have seen the evolution of black owned businesses. There is no comparison between the two situations. Black business owners have the resources to succeed, but it is very hard to succeed with no business experience and no capital. One has to start with a small amount of money and experience, while the other has money and lots of experience. I think there should be more of a focus on black owned businesses in Carolina. They have been and are the largest drivers of growth in this state, but it is not in the best interest of the black community to build all of our wealth in black businesses. We have a responsibility to invest in the community, but we also need to encourage other business owners to create more jobs and to bring revenue into our community.
